Pairing your hearing aids with your iPhone can make your life easier in many ways- let’s explore the best ways to connect these two important devices.

About 60% of all smartphone users in the U.S. have an iPhone. And with an estimated 30 million people experiencing hearing loss, it's no surprise that many iPhone users could benefit from hearing aids designed to work seamlessly with Apple devices. Lucky for hearing aid users, most modern hearing aids are now designed to integrate easily with iOS software, making a seamless connection between iPhones and hearing aid compatibility.

Hearing Aids Compatible with iPhones

Made for iPhone (MFi) hearing aids use Apple's licensed technology and Bluetooth to connect effortlessly to iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, and more.

MFi hearing aids support audio streaming, provide bidirectional listening and recognize personalized hearing settings when connected directly to the paired iPhone. Users can pair iPhone hearing aid app devices with:

●      iPhones (5 and newer models)

●      All iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPad Mini models

●      iPads (4th generation and newer models)

●      iPod Touch (5th generation and newer models)

Note: Pairing with devices other than an iPhone will require an additional streaming device which is an additional cost.

How to Pair Hearing Aids to iPhones

If you have an MFi hearing aid, it’s easy to pair your hearing aids with an iPhone. Go to:  Settings > Accessibility > Hearing Devices, and your hearing aids will show up for quick connection.

Here’s a step-by-step process:

  1. Open the hearing aid’s battery cover (those with rechargeable batteries may need to plug these devices into a charger first).
  2. Navigate to Settings on the iPhone, select Bluetooth and toggle it on.
  3. Return to Settings on the iPhone, navigate to Accessibility, then Hearing Devices.
  4. Close the hearing aid’s battery cover or take your hearing aids out of the charger.
  5. Wait until the hearing aid’s name shows up on the list of MFi hearing devices on the iPhone, which could take about a minute. Tap the name when it appears, and follow the instructions presented to complete the pairing process.
  6. Wait until pairing completes, which could take up to 60 seconds, before using the hearing aid.

Are your hearing aids not connecting to your iPhone? Set up a time to talk to your audiologist and see what’s going on.

iPhone Hearing Aid Settings

MFi hearing aids deliver a power-efficient, high-quality digital audio experience and allow you to manage your hearing aid right from your iPhone. Standard features found in iPhone-compatible hearing aids include

  • Wireless audio streaming
  • Remote control functionality
  • A “Live listen” functionality, which enables users to place their iPhone near a sound source and hear it directly through their hearing aids (which can be particularly beneficial in noisy environments)
